Pope Junior Greyhound Lacrosse Youth Volunteer Program

What is the L.A.X. volunteer program?

The L.A.X. (Lead Achieve eXcel) program is a youth volunteer program for students in grades 9-12 who have a strong desire to give back to the Pope Junior Greyhound Lacrosse program.  This program is designed to involve our youth and high school players in our program and community with the work it takes to run a premiere lacrosse league.

L.A.X. is comprised of young men and women who are honorable members of their community that recognize the benefits of volunteering their time and energy to help others and provide others with an education and love of lacrosse.

How do you become part of the L.A.X. volunteer program?

L.A.X. program volunteers must show strong communication skills and the desire to take ownership of their volunteering obligations.  We ask that anyone interested in becoming a member of LAX personally e-mail Melissa Rose at and provide her the following information:

  • Your Full Name
  • Grade
  • School
  • Cellphone Number (optional)

Potential L.A.X. members are required to email Melissa personally.  We want this program to truly show the dedication to serve others of the students NOT the parents.  Parent requests for their son and/or daughter to be a member of L.A.X. will be returned and reminded that we want the youth to contact us directly.

Parent may request to be added to our blast e-mail list so they may receive updates on schedules and dates. Please note that all communication about hours and job availability must be initiated by the L.A.X. member to Melissa.

Expectations and Responsibilities

L.A.X. members are expected to show up to work at least ten minutes early to sign in with their assigned coach and/or parent volunteer.

While you are at the fields, we ask that you stay at the fields for the assigned amount of time we gave you in our assignment.  We are responsible for you while you are at our fields and we want to know when you are leaving for your safety.

Most importantly, we want you all to have fun being a L.A.X. volunteer. We want you to enjoy giving back to a program that gave many of you your start in lacrosse as well as helping your community.

L.A.X. members could be asked to volunteer for the following positions, although this is not a complete list:

  • Assistant coaching
  • Checking in players
  • Mentoring younger players
  • Assisting in clinics and camps
  • Assisting in our sponsored tournaments and/or off site events
  • Playing goalie for the younger grades during practices
  • Set up the fields for games
  • Running game clocks and scoreboards during games
  • Breaking down the fields after games
  • Picking up trash
  • Selling spiritwear during games
  • Above all they have fun!
